Power boards and double adaptors are common in almost every Australian home, and used correctly they're safe, but they're also one of the more avoidable causes of household electrical fires.
Every power board and outlet has a maximum rated load. Plugging in multiple high-draw appliances (heaters, kettles, hair dryers) through the same board can exceed that rating and generate heat.
Plugging one power board into another multiplies the risk and is generally not recommended. It compounds the load on a single outlet well beyond what it's designed for.
If a power board has become a permanent fixture in a spot rather than an occasional convenience, that's usually a sign the room needs more power points, a straightforward job for a licensed electrician.
